Web Page Design Module 3: Basic Design Principles

Proximity refers to the relationships that items develop when they are close together. When two items are close together, they appear to belong together. The information is more organized and easier to read. Try to avoid placing a headline or subhead far away from the text it belongs with or a caption too far away from the picture it describes. You can avoid this by using a line break instead of a paragraph break which adds an extra blank line. Notice how there is no blank line between the heading (Basic Design Principles) and subheading (As proposed by Robin Williams) on this page.

Visual spaces create a hierarchy of information. Count how many times your eye has to jump from one element to another on this page. About 5 times?
